Many people get a break, sprain or twist once in their life, but how do you choose where you go afterwards? My name is Anna Brase; I go to EHS and I sprained my ankle the day before my freshman year started. It was awful and I had never experienced something like that before. I was an active person and didn’t want to hurt it more. I was in a cast for a week and a boot for 3 weeks. After, I knew I had to go to physical therapy, but where? I talked to some resources and I heard the name Mr. Mark Slaughter. He came highly recommended. My first day was great he taught me new exercises and motions to do with my ankle. I could barely stand on my ankle the first day. I continued to go every other day during the week and made great relationships with Mr. Slaughter and all the people in the work place. My ankle healed faster than I ever thought it would; everyday something new to do and everyday getting stronger. On my last day, honestly, I was upset I would miss everybody there, but my ankle was back to 100%! I remember on the last day being able to swing on the monkey bars and land with no problem. I would recommend that if you have to go to physical therapy Mr. Mark Slaughter is the one to go to, no matter your age. I can’t tell you how much he did for me. Thank you Mr. Mark Slaughter and your staff for everything!

I had crossed things off my list that I didn’t think my body could do due to overuse and injury.
Mark proved me wrong and I have never been as strong and healthy as I am today. The
techniques he has taught me (ALWAYS with proper form), I will carry with me forever. Getting to
the gym isn’t a problem for me anymore…it’s leaving.

I first met Mark after a shoulder injury. I couldn’t turn the steering wheel or lift milk out of the refrigerator. I had gone to see my Dr. who suggested physical therapy prior to an orthopedic consult. I will NEVER forget my first day with Mark. We talked briefly and in minutes he observed my posture, position of my feet while walking, and my squat form. All needed to be corrected. I have always been active and exercised I couldn’t believe I needed to change these things in order to stay healthy and get strong. I hadn’t played tennis or lifted weights in months because of my shoulder…in 2 weeks the pain was completely gone. Needless to say, I never left. I have been training with Mark and have learned countless ways to stay healthy and get strong. Mark spends his free time reading and researching. His knowledge is immeasurable and his care for his patients and the relationship he has with everyone who walks through his door is why people return. He does not specialize in one area of expertise. He is training athletes and rehabbing overuse injuries. He is getting someone back on their feet again after a hip or knee replacement. He is personally training and pushing people like me to do things that they thought their body was just not capable of. When you find something really great you want to share it with world…he is my something great. What I’ve learned is how to get strong and stay strong without injury. I’ve learned how to continue an active lifestyle and prevent an injury from happening. I look forward to walking in the door every single day at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy.

When I found out I needed a right total knee replacement at the ripe old age of 44, I was really scared and didn't know what to expect. As a former collegiate volleyball player, my knee had seen better days and the time had come to do something about it. I heard all the horror stories about the procedure itself and even worse - the rehab! I reached out to my friends on Facebook for physical therapist recommendations and that's how I found Fitness4Life Physical Therapy and Mark Slaughter. After my surgery, Mark and Sharon implemented a program to get me back in the game. They are caring but tough and I was pushed to give my all and then some during each session. Everyone in the office is so friendly and accommodating - they make you feel more like a friend than a patient. I am happy to say that I have made a 100% recovery after TKR and intense rehab. I'm not looking forward to the day when it's time for surgical intervention on my other knee but I do know where I will go for therapy when it's needed again! Thank you Mark, Sharon and Pat for taking such good care of me.

After 5 months of procrastinating over an injured elbow that seemed not to be healing it was recommended I call Mark Slaughter at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy. Mark did an excellent job of diagnosing the injury, developed a thorough plan that reduced pain, improved mobility, strengthened the muscles surrounding the elbow, and allowed the torn tendon to heal. I highly recommend Mark and his staff.  Great Job and Thanks!

I've suffered from back pain since I was 13 years old, caused by Scoliosis and then a major auto accident. A need for physical therapy took me to Mark Slaughter, who examined my back and listened to my history and complaints. With Marks professional direction, I was able to begin strength training and endurance exercise and learned how not to hurt myself. Mark taught me techniques that I use daily to stay pain-free. He genuinely cares about people getting better. Thanks, Mark!

Surgery is a frightening experience and the thought of physical therapy following surgery can be unsettling as well. I had both knees and a hip replaced within a five year period. I discovered Mark Slaughter for PT for my second knee and hip replacement and couldn't have been more pleased. Mark and his professional staff at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy were encouraging and never pushed me beyond my physical limitations. As a result of an exceptional therapy experience, I have frequently recommend Mark to my friends.

As a repeat patient, I can say I would never go anywhere else for my therapy. Mark is a great PT. He’s always got an alternative plan or a different set of exercises if you are not getting results from the originally prescribed plan. He’s always got a smile and a wise crack to keep the mood light. Whatever your ache or pain – Mark at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy can help you out.

I'm an avid bicycling enthusiast. Three years ago I had a total knee replacement and went to Mark Slaughter, owner of Fitness4Life Physical Therapy for my therapy.  Eight weeks later I was back on my bike and rode in a 34 mile bike race. Four months ago I had my other knee replaced and I returned to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy again for physical therapy.  Two months later I was again riding my bike at which time I hired Physical Therapist, Mark Slaughter as my trainer to strengthen my body for the upcoming biking season.  I'm 68 years old with two new knees.  I just purchased an all carbon fiber bike loaded with high end components and I'm riding 30 and 40 mile loops with my two sons at an average speed of 18 mph.  I owe a lot of gratitude to my Physical Therapist and trainer, Mark Slaughter.

After suffering a back injury while exercising and not getting any relief with the measures I was taking, I decided to try physical therapy. My care with Mark and his staff at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy was fantastic. My consult was thorough and he knew exactly where my problem was and gave me several strategies and exercises to do immediately. His insight into my overall posture has not only helped my back to begin the healing process but has addressed other health issues I've had including planter's fasciitis and costochondritis.I use what I've learned through my PT with Mark and Sharon in my everyday movement patterns as well as when I workout.I have shifted my focus to realize that I need to do every rep as it is the only one and do it perfectly! I am trying to be patient with my recovery and realize that this is a way of life and it's all about maintenance and prevention! When I get discouraged, they are there to encourage me through the process.

I first met Mark over five years ago when I was struggling with neck and shoulder issues that were occasionally incapacitating. Little did I know the path upon which I was embarking: not only did Mark address and treat my neck pain, he introduced me to an entirely new way of exercising and living. It is no exaggeration to say that Mark has changed my life. At 45, I am without doubt the strongest I have ever been, and under Mark's guidance I am still getting stronger! Everything Mark does is designed to meet people where they are - he decreases pain and increases confidence; he improves posture and diminishes poor movement patterns; but most importantly, he gives people whatever tools they need to live their best possible lives. His grasp of the body as a multi-faceted mechanism is unparalleled in the sport and fitness world today. He doesn't believe in gimmicks, and there is no quick fix for anything. But at the same time, his work is incredibly intuitive and consistent. He knows what works for bodies, and his ability to motivate his patients and inspire change is truly awesome. Watching patients improve under Mark's excellent treatment and support has been a highlight of my life over these past years. He is a remarkable therapist and an exceptional person. Thank you, Mark!

Eighteen years ago I broke my back. Sounds awful, I know. The great news is that after that injury I was lucky enough to meet Mark Slaughter. As my physical therapist Mark listened to me and learned about my injury and cared enough also to understand my limitations.  Fast forward 11 years and another injury. Again I chose Mark as my physical therapist because I know he is the best there is. Patient and kind, caring and encouraging, Mark Slaughter is the person who will help you recover.

After a devastating injury when I was 21 which left me managing paralysis and pain in my right leg, I chose then not to “fit the mold” of having a disability. About 5 years ago when I turned 40, I started to feel the effects of the injury on my overall health. I found it difficult to go up and down stairs as well as started taking medication to manage the pain. It was then that I realized I needed to do something different and joined a specialized gym. I saw incredible improvement in my strength and overall health.   I am currently a member at Iron Orchid in Maryville where I enjoy working out with amazing coaches and members 3-5 days per week. The Gym has helped me to gain the strength to stay active. My husband Chad and I love hiking and have made it our goal to book a trip each year to see different parts of the country. Our most recent trip was in October to Tennessee where we hiked 26 miles in 5 days! Recently I felt something pop and tear in my “good” leg while working out. I panicked over what this meant for my ability to stay active, as I rely on this leg to make up the difference for what my right leg cannot do. With the diagnosis of a torn calf muscle, a set of crutches (kind of a joke hopping on a “bad/now good” leg you can’t feel), significant pain, and the possibility of surgery I was devastated. Chad quickly made call to Pat for an appointment and we got in with Mark Slaughter at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy the same day to get a second opinion and therapy started. At my first appointment with Mark, I was so thankful that he wasn’t just focused on my current injury but looked at my whole situation. He took time to evaluate my injury, but also listened to my complicated history and came up with a treatment plan that included healing and strength. I told him my goal of hiking in Colorado this summer and he said “well, let’s make that happen.” I knew at that moment that I had found the right fit for my recovery. So often I have heard “is that a good idea with your right leg?” Mark was quick to jump on this journey with me and we got started on a rehabilitation program. He provides the most kind- hearted encouragement and pushes me at each workout to do more than I thought I could do. Mark has extensive knowledge that he shares in terms that are easily understood. He takes the time to explain the “why” behind the exercises. In the short 3 weeks that I have been with Fyzical Therapy, I am doing more than I could have imagined already. I have no doubt that I will be enjoying my next adventure with Chad in Colorado this summer. Pat & Mark, you truly make a difference and I am blessed that an injury has brought me to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy!

Mark has helped me so much when it comes to learning about the body and how to properly use it. Whether it be with sports or just feeling good throughout the day, the knowledge he has shared with me is constantly in use throughout my day. I came to Mark when I injured my elbow and was diagnosed with tendinitis. The rehab I was doing wasn't working like I expected, so Mark offered to help me out. Thank God. After beginning workouts with Mark, my elbow began to heal properly, and my overall athleticism got much better. Without Mark, I honestly don't think I would have been able to come back 100% healthy for my senior year. So for that, I'm forever thankful! My only regret is that I didn't find out about Mark earlier. Throughout college, I've learned a lot about training. Almost all of the things I've found beneficial to becoming a better athlete somehow relate back to the principles I've learned from Mark. How to properly use your body shouldn't be a secret anymore. People of all ages in Edwardsville and the surrounding area really need to check Fitness4Life Physical Therapy out. You won't regret it!

Mark Slaughter is the top physical therapist in our area.  His one-on-one personal and professional attention with myself as a patient and my family, is greatly appreciated!  He has not only helped us with issues we have had, he takes the extra step to insure that we are stronger to prevent future injuries.  He worked closely with our daughter's surgeon before and after her ACL surgery and it was a total success!  Thank you for always being there!

Mark Slaughter and his staff at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy are very knowledgeable, professional, caring, friendly, and helpful. Mark was able to diagnose my problem even when I was unable to say exactly what was wrong with me! He pinpointed my injury and tailored my therapy sessions which ultimately reduced my pain and furthered the healing process. Mark took his time explaining my injury, what was needed to heal and also what was necessary to prevent a recurrence of my injury. Despite being injured, It was always a pleasure going to therapy because of the upbeat personalities at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy.

I'm happy to highly recommend Mark Slaughter and the staff at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy.  I broke my fibula at the ankle and had 9 weeks of non-weight bearing in a fixed position. The result? A locked and very painful ankle joint!  Mark listened carefully to my situation and put together a plan that has yielded great results using a variety of exercises and treatments. (I even had cupping done like the Olympic athletes!)
Mark and Sharon are quick to listen and try new approaches as I have progressed. Information about the mechanics of walking is important and they have done a great job teaching me how to monitor my movement to avoid future problems. The atmosphere created at Fyzical feels like family and they exhibit a personal and very caring attitude.
Additionally, I have had lower back pain for about 30 years.  Mark suggested a few exercises and talked with me about posture and how to move and miraculously, I am pain free now.   I now know what to do should I have pain again.  In the front office, Pat Slaughter is great and makes scheduling easy even working around my business travel schedule.
I found Mark on the recommendation of a friend and I wholeheartedly agree!!

Fyzical of Edwardsville is my “go to” spot for the best physical therapy care for me. Mark is extremely knowledgeable in his field, and actually makes physical therapy more fun than it otherwise would be.  He’s not afraid to think outside the box in order to help you get better. He & Sharon have helped me rehab a painful hip, and now a broken elbow. I am thankful I found this clinic.

I thought I had a knee injury, and Mark pointed me to a good knee surgeon. It turned out I needed both knees replaced. Mark encouraged me to get both knees done at once. It was the best decision I could have made, including going to Mark and Sharon for my PT. They were excellent, and I recovered quickly... actually better than I've been in years. I enjoyed the Fyzical family and the relaxed atmosphere. THANKS for getting me back to good!

I remember the first day I walked into physical therapy with a full neck and back brace.  Fourteen broken bones (8 vertebrae, 5 ribs and a collar bone) and still recovering from a c-section, I knew the biggest challenge was ahead of me.  Mark was there from the moment he saw me.  He became my foundation over the next two and half years of treatment.  Mark’s therapy program is like no other as he understands and treats the mind, the body and the soul.   His personal connection with all his patients shines through physically, mentally and emotionally.  As a brand new mom, Mark and his staff welcomed my new baby as she spent 3 days a week the first year of her life in therapy with her mom.    I truly become part of a bigger family when I joined Mark’s program and that was the support I needed.  The atmosphere is extremely positive, encouraging and welcoming.  And the results!  Well, that is just simply amazing.  I remember the first day the neck brace was removed.  I had zero ability to turn my head.  I sat in a chair without the brace for a couple minutes and I was completely wiped out for the rest of the day and had to go home and sleep.  This was the starting point yet Mark never felt defeated.  My road to recovery with Mark was a journey but it was a positive journey that brought me back to normal life skills and functions.  I was able to hold my baby again, I learned how to drive again, I was able to go back to work full time and the pain kept improving.  When doctors said there was nothing more to do, Mark never stopped treating and I am so thankful that he did.

Thank you very much for the wonderful physical therapy services you and your staff provide for those of us in need. In late October of 2016 I began experiencing tremendous Sciatic issues down the front of my right leg to the extent that I was literally unable to stand upright or walk beyond fifty feet without intense pain. Mark did a thorough evaluation and prescribed a course of action that included stretching, some massage and cupping. For me the cupping treatments were wonderful and produce quick relief to trouble areas. Within two and one half weeks I had dramatic relief from the pain and began to work on strength. Thank you all for your care and very warm and friendly environment. Without a doubt a great place for great therapy and friendly people. Best in my book.

I came to see Mark at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy for physical therapy regarding a sciatic nerve issue.  At the time my doctor hadn’t investigated my issue with an MRI so we didn’t exactly know what the real issue was and thought perhaps it was an injury from working out incorrectly.  Mark showed me some simple exercises and made sure that my form was correct in order to help with rehabilitation.  He also used the Astym technique to help as well.  After each treatment using Astym therapy, I felt much better and I continued to do the exercises suggested by Mark. After six weeks, I was still feeling pain and Mark suggested that I go back to the doctor.  After an MRI, I found out that I have a herniated disc and was told that having surgery would be the only way to alleviate the pain and that rehabilitation without surgery was unlikely.  Due to not wanting back surgery, I continued to do the exercises that Mark taught me.  In about three months I was actually feeling close to normal.  After following the simple strategies that Mark showed me, I was able to not have surgery on my back.  I am grateful that Mark was able to help!  I highly recommend Fitness4Life Physical Therapy!

I had major shoulder surgery in March of 2016. My work insurance provided for many therapy visits. When that coverage expired, I knew that I needed more therapy to regain full use of my shoulder. Mark was recommended by a friend. Both Mark and Sharon provided the necessary guidance to rehab my shoulder. After release by the surgeon, I continued daily visits with the staff. They consistently provide recommendations and suggestions to maintain my shoulder mobility and to increase my overall physical strength and flexibility. I strongly recommend Fitness4Life Physical Therapy for any therapy or workout needs. The environment is warm and friendly. The patrons provide encouragement for each other. It is a family atmosphere where care for each person is felt. I truly appreciate all the help that the entire staff has provided to me. They are awesome.

I am a person who is not afraid of heavy lifting and because of that I have had my share of back injuries. I have two slipped discs in my back and have had two lumbar epidural steroid injections but the pain never fully went away. When my pain management doctor suggested physical therapy I was skeptical so I tried everything else from a chiropractor to a massage therapist. Mark and his team changed my mind about physical therapy, helped me change my bad habits and put me on the right path to healing. I learned that if you put your trust in the people at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy you will be greatly rewarded. I have been pain free for a month and counting and there is no greater reward.

My wife had gone to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy for therapy on her knee and shoulder, and she was very pleased with  Mark and the Knowledgeable staff there.  So when my doctor prescribed physical therapy for my back and hip pain, I knew right where to go. I came to Mark not knowing if he could help me with my chronic hip pain. After he did a thorough evaluation, he immediately saw that my stance/walking/sitting and getting up were all wrong and he went about to improve these everyday positions/movements right away with several exercises aimed at strengthening the core especially the glutes. This reduced my limping and some of the pain that I was experiencing. Later when he introduced some new exercises which involved weight-bearing on my affected leg and I couldn't tolerate them, he could see that this was not normal and referred me back to my doctor which I really appreciate. I may end up needing surgery but I am so glad I did this stint of physical therapy with Mark because I'm stronger and I've learned better body mechanics which as a nurse, I really need. And, in case I need surgery, I'm sure that I'll recovery that much better. I have told so many people about Mark. He has a keen eye and is quick to share it with you and he is always so encouraging. Lastly, he, Pat and Sharon have created an atmosphere in their studio which is so friendly and relaxed -- it was a pleasure to be there. Thank you, Mark!

Mark Slaughter is absolutely brilliant when it comes to figuring out what’s going on with your body when things quit working right or you need surgical recovery!  He got me up & moving the same day I went to see him for back problems and plantars fasciitis after several visits to an ortho surgeon, a foot doctor and 2 chiropractors couldn’t seem to help me.  Amazing!  He’s down-to-earth, fun, easy to learn from and so genuine.  He truly cares about making people the very best they can be!  Mark is simply the best there is.  Period.

My PT experience profoundly effected me as the young adult I am today. I remember my first day of physical therapy barely being able to walk. I spent years living with low back pain, yet trying to continue with my active lifestyle. My back would hurt as I helped on our farm, continued with yard work and even as I picked up my children. I felt very defeated. Yet despite the pain, I still tried to pursue my passion with fitness as a priority. For years I consistently spend 5 early mornings a week at the gym before my house wakes up and am a long distance runner. It seemed the back strengthening exercises recommended and common stretches experts would show me to incorporate into my routine, would only provide temporary relief. Some weeks, the pain was tolerable at best, and I would "push through" the aches and pains. Other weeks, the pain would be more of a stab and make it extremely tough to sit, stand, walk or carry on with my daily tasks, (most of which are not optional.) This vicious cycle had become my normal because I didn't think there was much more anyone could do to help me. I didn't have the time or patience for long office visits anywhere as they tried more trial and error attempts to fix me. (As much as I appreciated their efforts.) I would always leave feeling as if it was a "bandaid" fix but never cured the problem. Then one day I came across a friend online recommending Mark Slaughter. I'm so thankful I decided to call. He was so thorough at our initial consultation, and continues to be at each session I'm there! I immediately felt a new sense of hope and confidence after he spent time explaining the root of my injury and our plan of action to fix it. I have a huge respect for Mark's extensive knowledge-base. He is on fire for helping his patients and combines his decades of experience in physical therapy with the latest research and techniques. I love his "no-nonsense" approach to my injury treatment. We immediately get to working when I walk in and within my first couple of visits I could feel a huge improvement in my back pain! Mark continually enforces proper technique on each and every repetition, teaching me how important it is to make each one count. He gives me plenty of homework to then take and do on my own. He has built up my overall strength, especially in my core, but also built my confidence in what my body is capable of. Thanks to Mark, I am pain-free and living my very active lifestyle to fullest potential!

From the moment I walked into Mark's clinic, I felt comfortable and assured that I was in good hands. Aside from benefiting from Mark's care, the whole team at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy is very caring and supportive. After 3 knee surgeries, Mark and the team have helped me rehab back to where I am able to regain normal mobility. Not only has Mark guided me through rehabbing my knee post surgery, but he has also taught me fundamentals to prevent future injuries. Mark and the team are truly the best!!!

I love to garden, but was having some hip pain that limited my gardening activities. My orthopedic doctor authorized PT and I knew immediately who to go to! I had been treated for a very weak, painful and limiting back issue about five years ago. Mark taught me how to do daily activities in a way that didn’t stress my back. But he also taught me exercises to do at home that would strengthen my back and stomach muscles that were contributing to my back issues. And I just recently experienced the same positive outcome at Fyzical for my hip issue. The therapists took care to make sure I was doing all movements correctly. And they, in keeping with Mark’s philosophy,  also taught me exercises to do at home that will help my hip problem. I can’t give enough praise to the staff at Fyzical for two things: providing skillful and helpful physical therapy services and giving me the “tools” to use at home so I can continue gardening.

Mark helped me rehabilitate after 4 shoulder surgeries.  I couldn't ask for better care that what I got from Mark and the rest of the staff.  He is very encouraging, supportive, and knowledgeable in all aspects of physical therapy.  He doesn't hesitate to scold you when you do something wrong, either. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else should I need any type of physical therapy in the future.

I have worked with Mark Slaughter for over ten years rehabilitating various body parts from surgery or injuries. Most recently my lower back started hurting so I could not sleep at night. Mark showed me how to increase the flexibility in my back and strengthen my body to prevent future problems. I would rather drive 45 minutes each way to see Mark then see someone closer, who gave me poor results.

I started seeing Mark for physical therapy early in 2012 for a shoulder problem. The exercises corrected the problem and that is part of my exercise program I do today. But at that time, I was exercising at a gym and over time hurt my elbow and knee. So late in 2012 I started exercising at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy. Mark set a program for me first working on lower body, not body building, but strengthening. He is a stickler for doing each exercise absolutely perfect. That's the help I needed. No shoulder, elbow or knee pain. Have been doing upper and lower body exercises 4 days a week for many years. Thanks Mark, you're the best.

Mark helped me through several injuries, but most importantly is whence helped me get a proper diagnosis and recover from a fractured spine.  I left with my injuries healed and stronger than I was before.  It was always fun coming into the gym and listening to the Beatles on the radio.  Thanks for everything Mark.  Wouldn't be where I am today without your help.

My experience with Mark Slaughter and his clinic was not only fun but also a very good learning experience. Everyday he had his clients learn new things ranging from stretching to learning about how your body actually works. You get a vibe when you walk in that you are in a pretty special place because Mark is usually jamming out to the Beatles when you walk in. Mark Slaughter is one very interesting and intelligent man. He has taught me how to use and work my body better than any doctor or physician ever could have. Overall Mark runs a wonderful clinic with so many different great things to offer to not only please the client, but their body as well.

I was diagnosed with scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the spine) when I was in middle school and have suffered from mild to severe back pain ever since.  After seeing several doctors and a couple of specialists without much good news, it seemed I may have to suffer for the rest of my adolescent as well as adult life.  That’s when I started seeing Mark.  He helped in ways that even the specialists didn’t know to do and it’s changed my lease on life, how I do things, and has even allowed me to do more than I thought I could!  I recently just saw him again due to back pain but this time is different, I’m happy to say I’m 5 months pregnant but was not happy about the back pain.  Mark gave me tips on posture; everything from standing to bending over.  He also gave me simple exercises to do at home as well as at school while I have a break from teaching.  With his help, I am again pain free and back to enjoying my pregnancy!  Need a new lease on life or just a different way of doing things so you’re pain free?  He’s your guy and always has your best interest in mind!

I'm so glad to have had the opportunity to meet and work with Mark during my high school career. I didn't have the best understanding of how to train and treat my body for the long run. Now 7 going on 8 years later I'm making a run to play professional volleyball.

I'm in my 70's and received a gift certificate from my daughter-in-law to go to Mark as a trainer. I hadn't exercised for over a year! After only five months with Mark, I feel better and more active than I have in 30 years!  I never dreamed I would would swing kettle bells, lunge with a pole in my hands, or do pull-ups and dips, but Mark told me my body could do anything if my mind would let it, and it's true!  Thanks, Mark!!

I can’t say enough good things about Fitness 4 Life and the staff.  Mark, Pat, Sharon and Brian develop a rapport with all their clients which makes it a pleasant place to go even when the exercise and therapy may not be.  The dogs are glad I will be back to longer and pain free walks.

When my back flares up, I know I can depend on Mark to get me back to 100% or close! Everyone you meet there always greets you with a smile, very family oriented place. If you are hurting, go there, you will be glad you did.

I first chose to go to Mark Slaughter for physical therapy for a pretty severe ankle injury. I showed up in an air cast that I was put in at the ER. Mark laughed, told me to never put that thing on again, and my therapy began immediately. His passion for getting people pain-free is evident in every exercise he has his patients do, in every conversation he has, in just his presence. I have gone to Mark and his staff for a variety of issues from my ankle injury to knee pain to tennis elbow, and my pain is quickly relieved through his therapy, at-home exercises, and caring approach to life in general. Mark and his staff are the best of the best! I have referred many to him, including my son, and will continue to only go to him for any needs in the future!

When I broke my wrist 2 years ago,  I went to Mark Slaughter for rehab following surgical repair.  Thanks to Mark and his staff, I have regained full use of my hand and wrist.  I had both knees replaced in one surgery last September, and again went to Mark for successful rehab.  I would think of going nowhere else.  The atmosphere is professional and caring, but also casual and homey - the best of both worlds.  This is the only place I will go and I recommend it highly!

For months I had been having pain in my left knee when bending it or climbing stairs, then gradually growing into constant pain, so I decided to have Mark Slaughter at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy check out the issue.  I chose Mark after hearing different friends recommend him from experiences they had after therapy from their injuries and knee replacement surgeries.  They were pleased with his knowledge, compassion and concern to get them back to a better quality of life.  Mark evaluated my range of motion and pain level and suggested I see an orthopedist. I followed his advice, had arthroscopic surgery a few weeks later to correct the problem and was told I would need about 6 weeks of therapy at the therapist of my choice.  Of course, I returned to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy. Not only was I able to be pain free but I am also able to keep up with my 4 young grandchildren, running, jumping on the trampoline with them and roller skating.  Through Mark and his staff I also learned better posture and proper movements to ease the stress on joints. And they made it FUN too!!!!

I get by with a little help from my friends- my friend Mark, that is. I have had the "pleasure" of Mark helping me rehabilitate after two injuries- knee surgery and a broken wrist. Mark knows how to push you "just a little bit further" to get the most out of your session and to get you back to your old self as soon as possible. I recommend Mark and Pat- and the puppies- to everyone!

I have been driving from Alton to do therapy with Mark for about 12 years. The drive is well worth it. Mark has helped me with many problems. Back, hands, wrists and a knee replacement. I trust him with my whole being!! I love exercising with him twice a week. I have osteoarthritis and rheumatoid and he is always looking out for me while exercising. I highly recommend him for his one and one caring techniques.

I went to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy for physical therapy after my surgery for a torn rotator cuff.  Mark did an excellent job of getting my shoulder back into condition. My son also went to there for a workout program for high school sports. Mark and the staff provided him with an all around workout program that made him stronger and more fit. I highly recommend Mark and Fitness4Life Physical Therapy!

Mark and his staff do a great job of getting your body back to normal as long as the person is willing to work hard. After I had knee surgery I was back to regular activities within eight weeks. I couldn't have done it without  them pushing me.

I had a unique issue that was causing problems with my breathing.  Initially, I was referred out to many different physicians (PCP, Neurosurgeon, Chiropractor, Pulmonologist, Cardiologist, Internist, and Orthopedic Physician).  I also underwent a plethora of tests and bloodwork.  As a heath care professional myself, I was beyond frustrated that no one could find an answer.  I was told over and over again that "everything was fine".  After about a year, I began seeing an orthopedic physician who also specialized in acupuncture.  He tirelessly worked with me to discover that it was an issue with my abdominal muscles, which in turn were being affected by the position of my shoulder, my neck, and my posture.  All of this was affecting my ability to get an adequate breath.  While I was finishing up with acupuncture, my physician also recommended that I begin physical therapy to work on getting everything realigned and under control. This is where Fitness4Life PT came into my life.  I had been to other physical therapy places in the past, with no success, but several friends had recommended that I go see Mark and his staff at Fitness4LifePT.  I am so very thankful that I made my first appointment with them.  Mark, Lisa, and Sharon were all amazing!  And it was great to see interns there as well, learning from their expertise.  On my initial assessment, Mark took the time to REALLY listen to what I had been going through over the past year.  There was no doubting; he took all of that information and worked on a specialized plan to get me on my way to a healthier and happier me!  My breathing issue dramatically improved!   I worked with Lisa, Sharon, and Mark over a period of 6 months.  If something wasn’t progressing or something wasn’t working, they would switch up the plan until it did.  They gave me exercises and therapy that I could easily do at home.  They also took the time to do extra research on their own, so that even they could improve upon what they had initially set out to do.  That was amazing to me.  It truly showed how caring and professional they all were!  They were very calming and reassuring as well; something that goes a long way for a patient whose body is under stress or in pain!  Now, add into the mix the laughter that often filled the room (Thanks Mark for always putting a smile on my face!) and the cute little dogs offering their own dose of therapy, and you have the best physical therapy place around!  Special shout out to Pat for helping me figure out appointment times and being so flexible with my schedule! You rock!

Kudos to Mark Slaughter and the staff at Fitness4Life Physical Therapy. I can’t praise Mark, Pat, Sharon and his staff (even their dogs) enough for the way they treated me. They made me feel like part of their family. I highly recommend them for any of your physical therapy needs. I was a mess when I first came to Mark. My recovery from my total knee replacement had not gone well. My knee flexion and extension numbers were actually worse than before my surgery ten weeks before. I honestly thought I was going to have to live with the pain and lack of mobility for the rest of my life. It was a friend of mine who actually recommended Mark. When I went in for my first consultation Mark listened, evaluated my progress, and developed a plan especially designed for me. It wasn’t a “one size fits all” like I had been getting. Mark explained the reason for each exercise. He always gave me positive feedback and encouragement. When I went back to my doctor after only three weeks with Mark he was pleasantly surprised with my progress. After another four weeks with Mark I was released from my doctor’s care and was able to go back to work. Amen to that! With my next knee replacement, I’ll go to Mark first!!

After spending almost 4 months on complete bedrest at Mercy Hospital for complications associated with my triplet pregnancy, I needed extensive therapy.  At the time, I could not walk up  stairs without sitting on each step and using my arms to assist me. My doctor recomended Mark Slaughter.   She as well as other doctor friends, use him for their personal p.t. I went in for my initial visit and immeditely knew I was in great hands. They worked with me and my busy schedule of raising preemie triplets. Mark was one on one with me each visit using the latest techniques to ensure my full recovery.  He makes it fun with his awesome personality and jokes. He always asked for updates on my triplets.  Mark pours his heart into his patients to make sure they are at their best.  He loves his job and helping others and it TRULY shows! The clinic is a fun atmosphere where you always feel welcome. I have referred my own family and friends to him numerous times.  As for me, I now have the strength to enjoy normal activities thanks to Mark!

Mark is amazing and unlike any other physical therapist I have been to in the past!  I have seen him over the years for sciatica, a broken leg, and pre and post knee surgery.  He explains why my injury happened, what is needed to fix it, and how to prevent it from happening again!  His approach focuses a lot on everyday functional movement, which is amazing because I need my body to work properly EVERY DAY!
Mark and Sharon have created a relaxed and fun environment.  I know I will laugh and joke and make new friendships every time I go to Fitness4Life Physical Therapy!

Mark Slaughter was very important in the rehabilitation and advancement of my athleticism when recovering from injury. Mark knows so much about the body and sports, which makes him a great asset to know. At Fitness4Life Physical Therapy I know I can go to Mark with any questions or needs and get them answered in one visit. I would recommend Mark to not just athletes, but anyone that develops an injury and is seeking rehabilitation or just wants to get stronger.

Instead of traveling an hour one way to work out with my club volleyball team my senior year, I chose to work with Mark. Mark's main focus was body control and correct form. I worked a lot with body weight exercise and the kettle bells. Currently I work out with my college team at McKendree University and I've found that the work I did with Mark prepared me excellently for what lifts and exercises we do here.
